What we are actually looking at when we walk your yard

This is a completed Perrino project in Cincinnati. Everything marked on it is a decision that was made before the first stone was set. Move through the marks to see what each one is doing.

1. CanopyThe tree decides the planA mature canopy sets what will grow underneath it and where the patio stays usable in August. It is surveyed before anything is drawn, not worked around afterwards.
2. Bed lineA cut edge, heldThe bed line is the single thing a homeowner notices going soft. Cut properly against the wall and the fence, it still reads as a drawn line years later.
3. Fire featureBuilt into the wall, not dropped on itThe fire feature sits inside the seat wall geometry so the whole curve reads as one piece of masonry rather than a patio with an appliance standing on it.
4. Seat wallCap stones carry the curveThe cap is what your hand and the weather both meet. Set level along a curve, it doubles the seating without adding a single chair.
5. Paver jointHerringbone locks under loadA herringbone field interlocks against the spread that opens joints on a running bond. It is the pattern you choose when the patio has to still be flat in fifteen years.
6. Grade fallWater leaves before you notice itFall is set away from the house across the whole field. Get the grade wrong and every other decision on this patio becomes a drainage problem.
